It is a dynamic method of self defense.
It is not used for sport. Hap Ki Do is based on the Japanese art, Daito-Ryu AkiJujitsu. It is referred to as a soft system, in that a hard attack is met with a soft response. The opponent’s own force is used against him first to control, and then subdue if necessary.
Tae Kwon Do is an Olympic Sport. It was a medal sport for the first time in the 1988 games in Seoul Korea. It is what is referred to as a hard system. Tae Kwon Do is considered “out fighting”. Tae Kwon Do requires the participant to develop flexibility, balance, agility, speed and power.
